Engineer-to-Order Manufacturers considering a new ERP system are curious about the process. Encompix detailed their 8 Point Plan from the Kick-Off to Going Live.
Kick Off:
It all begins at a formal meeting with an implementation team, during which you will discuss the business reasons for implementing a new system, and your objectives and timeframe for the implementation.
Orientation:
Schedule a detailed education session for the ETO manufacturer's internal implementation team, to explore the functionality of the software in depth.
Detailed Implementation Planning:
Review the results of the orientation session, and develop a detailed implementation plan, including specific tasks, personnel assignments, and milestones.
Conference Room Pilot:
As an ETO manufacturer uses the system to process an order from beginning to end, the implementation team and functional managers can see the overall flow of the system and review its effectiveness at processing your data.
Production Pilot:
By processing actual data through the ETO ERP system, like Encompix, manufacturers can ensure that all procedures have been properly mapped to the system, and that the data conversion is accurate and appropriate. Completion of the production pilot verifies that the ETO manufacturer is ready to go live with the system as soon as the users are trained.
End-user Training
Training goes beyond simply teaching users which keys to hit, but includes an explanation of the business reasons for new procedures and the benefits, including hands-on exercises with real data familiar to the users.
Go Live!
This is the time when an ETO manufacturer turns off the old system and begins to run business with the new ETO ERP system. Chuck Stewart, Executive VP of Encompix notes, "Your Encompix consultant will be right there by your side, ensuring that everything runs smoothly for this important event. Should any unforeseen issues arise, your consultant will be able to address them immediately."
Post-Implementation Review:
After an ETO manufacturer has been using the system for several months, companies like Encompix will evaluate how well the ETO ERP system is being used, identify and correct inefficient procedures or processes, and evaluate the scope of improvements achieved against baseline
measurements.
Thomas R. Cutler, spokesperson for the ETO Institute (www.etoinstitute.org) said, "The ETO Institute praises Encompix for detailing the steps for these types of installations....it details exactly what the ETO manufacturer should expect. Not all vendors are as conscientious."
